According to the French philosopher Paul Valery, “the skin is the deepest part of the human being” and therefore it reflects the innermost part of the human being, its core.

Skin as a canvas on which to project a human’s being inner world. From insight out…scrutinized and enlarged. Superficially, people’s skin couldn’t be more different. But deeper beneath the surface i we would cut into someone’s skin we could see that we are more united than we thought.

In my more abstract perception of the skin, I want to show humanity in its essence, its attempt to grow beyond limitations that are often perceived as painful. Here the pain which is symbolized by the barbed wire, could be seen as a transformational tool.

In these works the skin starts to have a life on its own. Like a shell protecting and dismissive on the one hand, tender and soft on the other.
